non standard seats in the 9n

Post by Andy Beard »

got a few options -

audi a3
mk4 golf (not recaros)
audi a4

i can get hold of full interior for the above cars but will any of the rear benches fit?

the a3 seats are wick, the mk4 golf seats are cool too, the a4 seats are not all that but cheaper.

i can get full gti t recaro from a mk4 for cheap but its out of a 5dr so the front seats wont go forward to access the back seats :(

got my eye on some porsche seats also (black leather out of a 911 turbo) 8)

guess i'll have to get the tape measure out for the rear seats,

in terms of the front ones,

is it a case of simply unbolting the runners from the bottom of the standard ones and bolting them on to the bottom of the new ones?

or is nothing that easy :?:

It's a shame none of them will fit.

The Polo/Ibiza/Fabia got unique seat mounts.

As tox said none fit without modification! You can get the rear "bottom" parts to fit only just, but one hook doesnt line up properly and they are very tight agains the rear speakers! The rear "back" parts dont fit at all! You can get the 3/4 in slighly( about halfway) but the 1/4 part in no chance, for it all to fit correctly the whole rear bench would need cut down! Also they wont lock in place, and I dont know if they need to for mot etc, I recon it isnt very safe and really isnt worth the hassel!

As for the fronts, recaro do make a subframe for the polo 9n but only for non standard recaro seats, ie one's you can buy from a shop etc, the recaro subframes wont fit standard equipment recaro seats, ie one's fitted to golf gti's etc as standard! To make them fit you will need to strip the whole subframes then make up brackets then weld them to the base of the new seat, then bolt them to the floorpan! Also some seats come with the seatbelt lock welded to the seat, this would need to be removed then re attatched to your new seat! :D

Everything is possible if you have the time and know what you are doing!

Yep none of those seats will fit unless all of the above is done! If you really want to change your seats then go for it cos it can be done, but the easiest way is to buy a set of cobra, recaro, etc from your local car shop and make sure they come with subframes! Or even ask them to fit the seats to make sure they fit! :D
