polo power!

Post by _williams_ »

hia people! i just read a comment about polo SE's being nippier than most similar cars! i've got an SE, i've put an exhaust and induction kit on it and i've gotta say it feels like a dog! i've had a few little dabbles, things like fiesta 1.25's, saxo furio's, corsa 1.2 SXI's and they all seem to pull away from me! could this be a problem with my car? something not running properly or....?! Iknow my car's an 8v so its not gunna be that fast, but i still think its slower than it should be! :? :x

hmmm
mines only a 1.0e 8v and i feel that rockets for such a low litre, gives most 1.2's a run for their money, beat my mates saxo 1.1 doing a rolling start at 40mph on a dual carriageway upto 80 even with bigger wheels, i was whooping his ass hehe.
all depends on how good the driver is though ;)

^^ Agreed! all depends on the driver but the polos are pretty slow unless you go for a 16v or something similar

hi i have a polo 1.4 8v aswell.
i dnt no y this engine is so underpowered as its only puttin out 60bhp and its got mpi.
the fiesta 1.25's have 75bhp, the saxo 1.1's 60bhp, 106 1.1 60bhp and clio 1.4's have 80bhp upwards depending on the model so this probly explains why they wer pulling away!
best thing to do is not race any1 but say its really fast lol
build up your no claims and get sumthin faster in a years time or so!!

just whack 14's on, stiffen the suspension, full exhaust system, panel filter and you'll be beating those 1.1i's 8)

the reason they are quicker is due to the difference in power to weight ratio, all in all you can say the polo actually had some proper bodywork done to it, as opposed to crisp-packet style saxos

it was a GTI at one point i believe

the 0-60s that VW quote arent correct, my mk4 1.4 60hp did 0-60 in 13secs while VW quote 14.9

Just strip it out.

Remove the back seats, rear trim, spare wheel, jack, boot carpet and any sound-deadening you come across. If you have any ICE get rid of that as well.

Yes doing it has a couple of drawbacks (like noise, and if you ever get a puncture) but hey it's cheap

my standard 1.4 8v does 0-60 in 11 seconds! way off wat vw claim.

i cant say if its very accurate but i played a cd, waited till it was 10 secs thru the song, then i booted it and wen the needle hit 60 i checked my cd player which read 21secs!

i did this a few times and the results wer pretty similar but the 16's are goin on soon so it will probly be alot slower :( i aint to sure tho
