Johns car is pretty new, so weighs more than the earlier GTIs.
Still under the book weight though.

Why is it heavier, are there more additions on latter models....

Ive no idea mate.
I just remember it mentioned a couple of years back on Club Lupo.
Cant find the thread with the info though!

Just been told, the car was weighed with nothing removed and a third of a tank of fuel.

The stated weight for VW cars is with half load apparently and with half a tank of petrol. If im not mistaken. Newer VW's are also timed to 60 with half load.

Just been informed the answer.

The Euros desided weights had to be quoted as the max weight "including driver, half tank, bag, aircon, heated leather, leccy sunroof, 6changer, and side airbags cos it's max weight"

This was after the Polo GTI would have been weighed.
The early GTIs were recorded as weighing 978kg
The later 1015kg

Any of you chaps had your car on the weigh bridge?

I've had my 5 door Polo GTi on a weighbridge with almost a full tank of petrol and it came in at 1079kg at the time it also had a sub and amp in the boot. Just checked the manual and it states the Polo GTi weighs 1032kg but that would be with half a tank of petrol. I will get it weighed again with as little petrol in it as possible, my boot is now empty also as I have to transport my dog around in it !.

I've driven a Lupo 6 speed GTi back to back with my Polo and the Lupo did feel slightly quicker I would also say it handles a bit better.

they state 1032?

thats only 7 less than a 16v then

and they have an AC pump, AC radiator, thicker ARB, oil cooler, heavier inlet manifold, extra cat, about 5 times more wiring, head weighs loads more also

hmm, shows the figures arnt exactly very accurate

Eh? :? It looks to be a damn fine machine IMHO! I'm not quite sure how it could be described as looking like a disabled car... but hey, each to their own

Its only 4" shorter than the 6n2!
I take it your talking about the size of the car?
I wouldn't say it handled like a go-cart, yes it handles well, but it understeers as standard, and rolls around a lot.
Coilovers transform the car though ;)
