Hi guys im new and after a gearbox for my polo match coupe

Post by shep »

Hi guys

I have just brought a 1994 MK3 1.0 coupe and I am impressed by how smooth it is to driveand how well it handles

This is my first VW and it goes well for a 1.0

However.............

The gearbox is a bit noisy in first gear and the clutch is a bit stiff. Does anyone have a spare gearbox for sale in the wiltshire area?

Would any other gearboxes fit?

Would a 5 speed box fit?

Sorry to barge in wanting advice lol, I am using the search function but theres so much of it.

Cheers

Put a wanted ad in the relevent section. Try your yellow pages for local VW breakers.

A 5 speed box will fit with the correct mount, I can't remeber if you need to change the gear linkage and ARB though.

hey,

worth putting a wanted in the wanted section which is near the bottom of the main forum! don't forget to put a location in ur profile so people know where abouts your from! easier to decided a distance that way!

a 5 speed will fit! ideally you would want a box out of a 1ltr mk3 classic/saloon! they had a 5 speed box on a 1ltr, however, getting one maybe difficult as they are a bit scarse these days! :?

you might need to change the drive shaft on one side also, but i'm not sure about that!

hope thats of some help!

You can fit a 5 speed box without any issues, however, as hardhitter mentioned you may need to change the linkage and ARB to accomodate it.

One code of gearbox you could use (code stamped on bellhousing) is AYZ (I think) metz had this gearbox mated to his 1ltr saloon.

The Mk2 5-speed 'box will fit your Mk3 fine. You'll need to use the 5-speed 'box mounts, but that's it.
