I just got an MFD unit installed.

I don't have the navigation CD so I can't comment on that side of things.

Pros

1.) Looks very neat (esp at night) and fits in with the awesome blue and red display of the Polo.

2.) 5" display makes it viable to fit a dvd unit

3.) Adds a little to the resale value

4.) Clean dashboard

cons

1.) Can't put POI (points of interest) (i.e speed camera locations)

2.) Runs off CD so is slower than SD card

3.) Looks uber posh so is very nickable (can't take it with you).

4.) Very expensive, not just to buy, but fitting isn't easy so you have to pay for that and then possibly a navigation CD (£90.00)

Thanks to cyhliu for sending me some pics of his so I could decide to get it. Here is the unit in cyhliu's car:

Nickpolo,

Yes, indeed you can ask, well with iPod/MP3 connectivity it is a bit simpler...and less expensive as you will simply need an extra lead that feeds into the Sat Nav. Now however, no normal phono/stereo leads will do, no, for this to work you need to purchase a special lead with a special connector that connects into the back of the unit. This cable is more commonly known as a Dietz 1213 if I remember correct and costs about £25-£30 and then you will need an additional stereo to two phono cable to finish it off. This should then allow you to play any MP3, iPod, Discman, Walkman or MD Walkman that has a stereo out.

In fact, I've purchased such a cable and are waiting for a few more bits, once I get them all and fit it I shall post some photos shall I? Hope this helps.

There are two units, MFD ver D and MFD ver G. The version G puts out more power to the speakers and has a quicker streetsearch system. However with the Gti's standard speakers you don't need the extra power (ver D is enoughf or that).

There is little diff between the two units, so id say go for the ver D like I did.

If you do get one, its a very tight fit (not much space behind the GTi's radio) so you prolly want to get someone who knows what they are doing to fit it.

Ended up costing me about £700 including, postage, Nav CD and installation, so make sure you work out the cash.

I agree with Andyg about the differences, I paid extra for the ver. G and wish I had opted for the ver. D!

Yes, the unit is pretty customisable, you select CD, Radio or the AUX option, but before that you have the option to make AUX either, video in only, audio in only or both audio and video...

Hope this helps...
