TDI - Alloy Plate on the Floorpan..?

Was looking underneath the car at the drivers side floor, as you do, :D and I noticed an Aluminium Block attached to the floorpan. Anyone know what it is.. and what it does.. :?:

Does it kind of bulge down a bit?

If so it's the oil sump guard.

It's the Fuel Cooler.

It is a large heatsink that the fuel can be routed through if the ECU thinks the fuel is too warm.

Thanks josh.. that explains why it was warm to the touch... (Thought it was a hedgehog warmer... :lol: )
