Battery Removal Help..

Hi People..

Well, the time has come. Went abroad around the 10th of December, and the car was left standing still. I hadn't turned on the alarm either. When it came to starting the car on Thursday, it failed.

So, i'm going to have to remove the battery and bring it home to charge it.

The problem being, how do i remove the battery?

I've managed to remove the wires from the positive terminal, but then i realised that the battery is actually sitting dead still. Don't know how though.

So how do i go about removing the battery? I'll remove the negative terminal on monday when i get to see the car again, but it'd be grateful if people could kindly help.

Note:- The car is fitted with a halfords battery if that is any help.

It was last changed in 2003. How long are batteries supposed to last anyhow?

There's a bracket step that holds the battery in at the bottom-front-ledge. Secured by a 10mm bolt from memory.

you'll have this sortof thing on the front edge of the battery at the bottom, it just hooks over the bottom and keeps it still, so as del said, just undo the bolt then take the clamp off and your battery will have it's freedom

By the way, is their any battery that doesn't hit the corner of the bonnet thingee. The metal thingee. GRR, i can't even explain myself.

Basically, the bonnet piece which folds into the underneath of the body keeps hitting the battery. is their anything i can do to avoid this?

Position the battery properly, make sure it's sitting right. If I'm readin that right, you're talking about the bonnet arm?

Oh, and expect some corrosion on that battery clamp, give it a good soaking of oil before attempting to undo it.

Will try all that. Yep, was the bonnet arm. Just that since i've had the car, hadn't had a problem with the battery. Only realised two days ago that it wouldn't start, and the clocks were dead as a door nail.

if the battery is rubbing against the arm it is probably the wrong battery! you need to make sure the battery doesn't have any small ledges on the sides at the bottom! if it does its the wrong one! there is an identical battery without the ledges! the only ledge u should have is on the front which the clamp holds onto!

i would get u the number but my dad knows them and he aint around!
