CAR - 650
immediate REPAIRS required - 250 (would have been half that if i hadnt been a n00b letting mum take care of it)
insurance - oh god.
INSURANCE, seriously - 740 first year, 580 second, 247.50 third (swapped halfway to more expensive astra, quoted 495 for polo), plus a couple of temp-weeks at about 30 quid a pop
TAX - 220 (110 twice), and a further six months, 25 (partway refund, 61 minus 36)
...fuel... - ah, screw that for a laugh. thousands.
REPAIRS, ongoing over the years - probably well over a grand total, more than 400 quid a year. money pit for third party long-term consumable parts - shocks, exhaust, clutch, pedal box, manifolds, cambelt etc.
Short-term CONSUMABLES - tyres, brake pads/discs/shoes/cylinders, oil, filters & fluids, battery, ignition leads, dizzy rotors & caps, spark plugs. £££...
mini-BLINGS (will hopefully earn some of this back on resale) - 25 for clocks, fiver for gaiter and shiny handles, two quid for new badge, two fifty a year on bonnet poppies, fuel used to collect (plus, payment? can't remember) "new" seats, tenner to replace shelf ruined by speaker stealthing attempt, fifty quid on foglights, another fifty on the head unit (BARGAIN tho) and fifty again on good front speakers (estimates), plus at least another fifteen for wiring and attachments, fuel again for picking up Mk4 wheels... and a fiver on a beanie baby bought specially to go in the car, fifteen on air fresheners. At least fifty on rust treatment and painting-up supplies (not all used on the car / bodywork).
Unusual stuff...
Sixty ? on new gearbox, plus collection fuel
God only knows how f***ing much on doing the engine out. The piston rings were an arm and a leg just for starters, then there's the bearings, cambelt, water pump, gaskets, and all the tools i had to gradually buy and cleaning products spazzed... this is why overhauls & recons still cost a lot.
Thermostat & blue sender... £20?
Petrol tank... call it £100 inc fitting
Bought an entire master cylinder reservoir just to get the cap - anyone want the body? (£10)
Hot air hoses from halfords (£5). Bobbins.
Insane amounts of gun gum and wrap from Gunson to fix shagged exhaust. Avoid. It's pikey. (£20)
Improvised hub bolt tool from homebase (extra-long table leg) and breaker bar - £20 all in
Torque wrench... £15!
New aerial (£10)... and adaptor kit for old stereo (£2)
T-cut stuff, £5
Carpet cleaner after spilling a gallon of oil... (£10)
Mirror glass, £10
Locking fuel cap, £10
New keys, £5
Poloace 1.0 chip £25
---- and a hundred and one other things, to be sure.
One day when i am a braver man i will go through this and add it all up. Then discover why i am still not rich!!
