Ipod and 6CD changer

Post by grantcolborn »

Maybe this would be better in the ICE section but I thought i'd try here first.

I'm just about to buy an Ipod and want to connect it to my 9n GT TDI, however it seems most kits connect to the stereo using the CD changer port on the back of the stereo, my car obviously has the CD changer. I don't want to take the changer out as I'd need it when I come to sell my car on.

Anyone managed to have both in there car? I only want to connect the Ipod using a lead, not using iTrip or anything else!

i an ipod all linked up and i also have a 6 disc changer.

i have left the changer as it is in my car and just unplugged it from the head unit.
then plugged an AUX wire (red and white jacks) into the BUS IN where the disc changer was and now the that goes into the line out on my dock and runs perfectly on my headunit.

when i come to sell, i removed the aux wire and plug the cd changer back into the headunit

Either that or use one of them things that plugs into the cassette slot. My Mate uses one and it sounds fine.

I took out the cd changer and tape deck, got over £200 for the cd changer on ebay and kept the tape deck if I sell the car on ,then got a mid range alpine head unit with the ipod interface adaptor for around £320 all in. Could not be happier! Amazing sound quality, can control the ipod from the head unit, the ipod is nicley tucked away in the drawer under the passenger seat.

There's a product in China, which can connect the Beta/Gamma head unit w/ i-pod & CD-changer (by using an adaptor and ground wire). Since signal are linked to the headunit, the sound quality is same as I-link, you may look at the below pix to have an idea on how it works.

For cabling, you may place the box into your glove box, or the cubby box on the dash. It's quite easy to install, what u need is a pair of VAG stereo removal kit and a screwdriver. To swap between I-pod & CD, you need to press FM then CD button. To select the song, you can either press the back/forward to next chapter button or use the i-pod directly. Best of all, u can restore back and only cost about GBP450.

OK.. Here comes the bad thing, you can't choose the menu as I-link, there are some bugs in the program, which you can't fast forward to backward while playing the songs. Sound quality is not as good as CD and you can't hide the "thing" if you are using the i-pod version (they have a built-in MP3 version.
