Wahey, Polos landed!

Post by Matty2021 »

I picked up ma polo last night, superb, getting it an mot tommorow, should fly through it though. I was wondering though; right basically as i understood the car i bought was a 1.0 cl coupe. But, ive owned one litres before, and when i drove this it seems well too quick to be a 1000cc. Are they generally quick cars or is it likely its actually a bigger engine ie. 1300
cheers chaps :)

1 litre polos are generally pretty nippy in short bursts, just lacks that bit of umpff getting up hills and ease when going past 70

i'm sure i read that somewhere also!

as for nippyness, they aren't bad, they can poodle along the motorway cruising at 80mph quite well, but u'll soon feel it slow down when your carrying more than 1 passenger up a hill!

in comparrison to a G40 however, it feels very sluggish!, but i don't supose thats hard really!

*slappity* Pettsy, you should know better than that by now

<<<< 1043cc CL

ahem. ;)

It'll certainly feel quick if you haven't driven anything else before / for a while / with the freedom you get from it being "yours", or taken a ride in anything older than 5-6 years. Get ready for a go-kart a thon :)

Just try not to rag it too hard, 1 litres (particularly on all stock gearboxes except the AHZ) are happiest long-term below 70, though they'll certainly lap up the odd opportunity to be pointed towards the ton (even if it takes 150 miles to reach it). Even as a sorted, solid 80-style VW part, engine WILL blow (a fair bit of full throttle acceleration isn't too bad, but sitting on the motorway with your foot on the boards/regularly going into the redline is to be avoided).

Voice of incredibly bitter experience right there.

Plus it'll make your meagre fuel money left over from insurance etc go further.
The fun with this car is to be found round town and down B-roads/unclassifieds inside of the limit :D (or non-trunk A-roads, should you be in the more rural bits of the country)

Just mk3 coupe

Post by VII »

My first car was k10 micra which was easy to drive and which took 3 week's to get 60 LOL, aftere that a mk4 1300 escort which did go well handle really good until the engine gave up. now I've got a mk3 vw polo coupe 1049cc which handle really well and is easy to drive like my old micra. I always wanted golf but this is just as good.

P.S. can any one tell me what is the name of the red that was used on the 92 coupe
thanks.
