Polo GTI in March

Post by silverpolo »

jacked-up suspension, chunky styling, roof bars - and all on a VW Polo! No, your eyes aren't deceiving you - these are official pictures of an all-new version of the popular supermini, and it's called the Polo Fun.

Similar in style to Rover's recently launched Streetwise, this is no wacky concept vehicle. It will go into production with colour-coded trim and sports seats, and buyers will be able to choose from 55bhp 1.2, 75bhp 1.4 and 100bhp 1.4-litre petrol engines. There will also be a 75bhp 1.4 and a 100bhp 1.9-litre diesel powerplant.

The car will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in two weeks' time. VW will also introduce the 130bhp 1.9 TDI PD unit to the Polo to create the most powerful Sport variant in the range, at least until the GTI arrives in March.
In addition, the firm will take the wraps off a long-wheelbase version of the Phaeton at the German expo. The luxury limo has had its rear legroom increased by 120mm thanks to an extra section in the floor, and will be offered with 4.2 V8 and 6.0-litre W12 petrol engines, plus the 5.0-litre V10 diesel found in the Touareg off-roader.

At the other end of the scale, a new 1.4 FSI-engined Lupo will be on show too, fitted with aluminium panels and a Tiptronic gearbox. Also set to make an appearance at Frankfurt is the Beetle Cabriolet TDI complete with a 100bhp 1.9-litre diesel engine, plus a 2.0-litre 150bhp FSI petrol version of the Touran. The compact MPV gets a six-speed DSG transmission, as fitted to the new Audi TT V6, which will be offered in diesel models.
