Brake problem- Feels like im driving with them on

Post by live2themaxuk »

Recently ive had an increasing brake problem. The car seems to get its brakes 'stuck ' on, and the pedal gets really stiff, almost liek you pump it when the cars off. Whats going on?

cheers

Try jacking it up to see if all wheels run freely. If you think the breaks are binding, get it sorted ASAP to avoid any loss of stopping power, damage to your discs, pads & callipers.

cheers for reply,

how to do you mean by binding brakes though?

u mean the pads are sticking to the discs or something? if that is the case why would be pedal get really stiff. Was thinking it may be a probalem higher up like servo etc

cheers

Well it may well be a problem higher up, i.e pistons or master cylinder. But the only way to find out for sure if ur brakes are binding is to jack it up. besides if some wheels run free and others don't it narrows down your problem.

problem is the problem isnt consistant. It happens, then i stop, pump brakes. Then it goes, then the pedal suddenly has travel. . . . . then it doesnt. . . . while driving i might add. . . . its messed up

havnt long had new pads front, but may just be conincidence. was fine for first 2 months only become prob now

from your description it sounds like a piston in the caliper is sticking (could be master cylinder fault too) . So the calipers prolly need an overhaul. If it was my car I'd take it to a VW specialist and get them to strip them down.
