If I go to my dealer and order a brand spanking motor would I get any influence over the plate it gets registered with? The new format of numbers means the last 3 characters is not relevant to anything.....

I know you can swap over using the dvla or any other place that sells private plates for huge prices, but I am not keen enough to spend that kind of cash.

If you ring the DVLA they will do you a plate including all fees for Â£250

Go to http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/
You can get a plate from Â£250 which will probably give you the letters you want. This includes all fees. Far cheaper than dealers and the plate will probably appreciate in value. If you change your car in the future there is a transfer fee of Â£80.
