my polo doesn't seem to have a reversing light, is this the same on all polos or is mines a reject?

It has to have one by Law, are you sure it hasn't got one? It will be on the left hand side at the bottom of the cluster.

You sure? I was lead to believe that by law you're not required to have a reverse light...
@ titch - do you have a pic of the lights? they might be an aftermarket pair

Fog light should be on the left...

Im feeling a bit brain dead today as i had a lot going on.. Ill double check some details tomorrow.
They are the standard rear lights.
Did you check the bulbs? - Could be something as simple as that (Double check the bulb, you will know if its blown as the wire thing inside the bulb will be broken & it will rattle)

Your reversing light is the one at the bottom, so the chances are as Mysteryboy said, your bulb may have gone.
And as for the foglights, there is only one and that is at the bottom on the right hand side.

Yep defo standard lights and reverse light pointed out as the guys said
If not the bulb gone, it could be the reverse light switch that is duff
