hi people, im new on here and am glad i have found a good site to chat about me problems(or lack of) with my GTI.

Ive read through a few of the posts and it seems im not the only 1 that thinks these gtis are not the quickest, and im not happy to find that a poxy vts will kick our arses!!

Is there a chip/remap readily available for the 2000 gti with the arc code engine? If so how much bhp will i gain? how much are they? and where do i get 1?

Hi mate, welcome to UK-P! Three new members in one day today, must be something in the water!

There is a chip available for the GTi, you'll need to get in touch with JBS in Chesterfield to get some details on it, all I know is that our ARC engines aren't programmable by the serial port behind the ashtray, so a chip is needed instead. It's by Custom Code, and will set you back the best part of about £350 or so for up to 12-15bhp extra and an increase in torque, plus a smoother drive! You can get hold of JBS on 01246 455 005

The turbo optionhas been undertaken by one of our members' Saj, who is in hte final stages of completing a turbo conversion on the standard 1.6-litre powerplant. Have a look for some of his posts - there is a useful Search function at the top of the page

yeah ill give them a call i reckon. 350 a fair bit but hey if its gonna make it run a little smoother then i reckon its gotta b worth it.

Is 350 a fitted price? has any1 had 1 fitted? if so would u recommend it?

I can only see a full remap giving upto 10 bhp. You need to look at cylinder head work, throttle bodies and other things. A bolt on turbo conversion will kill the engine without lowering the compression ratio, first.

wot sort off a job is it to put 1.8turbo engine into a polo(if at all possible) engine mounts and electrics etc? wot sort of cost any ideas anyone?

Not an easy job, thats for sure. Speak to the few Mk 4/5 ownders that have had it done and they will tell you costs. I'm guessing a few grand to do the conversion plus the engine and uprated chassis components.

They are a taller engine so there may be clearance problems with the sump.

oh dear sod that then its a little to much!!

Wot would u lot do if u had a grand or so to spend on the performance side of things? I have already got a K&N and scorpion cat back and 50mm lowering springs.

Was thinking about the chip mentioned above but sounds like its hardly worth it from wot people have been saying!?

With N/A engines it is harder to extract more performance.
But there are a few things you could consider.
Yes there is the engine conversion.
We have not long since completed a 1.8T conversion in to a 6N Polo
This was lovely and it had a turbo conversion too.
But if you are going to the extent of this what you have to realise is that the ECU should be used from the donor vehicle.
This requires the whiole of the engine bay to be rewired.
The clutch goes to hydraulic and the cable removed on the accelerator to be replaced by a sensor.
Mmmm not easy.
Then you could always look at Nitros?
We do this and I do believe that Josh had his Polo with Nitos on.
We use a set up that is road legal in this country and the system is progressive.
You dont hit the red button and get thrown back in the seat like you see at the pictures.
This uses a sensor on the accelerator and adjusts to suit.
I would think for your needs that this could just suit.
With remaps as has been discussed we could always offer you Custom-Code.
