Buying a Polo Coupe

Post by gary87 »

because of the high rate of car insurance in Northern Ireland, I have turned my original plans away from a Mk2 Golf and towards a Polo Coupe. However, I am wondering if there are any small things I should look out for when I go to look at one and what engine would you recommend to go for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alright mate, if your after the low insurance then a 1.0 or 1.3 cl coupe will be ur best bet. Try an find one where the head gaskets been done if possible, mine went the day i got it Mot'd at 92000 miles. Hope this help a bit, i think theres a topic about things to look out for on the mk3/gt/g40 forum, at the top under mk3 buying guide.

How much is he asking for it mate? And someone correct me if im wrong here, but arn't the lights and grill from the g40 exactly the same except for the badge on the grill, which from what i can tell aint there. Also g40 bumpers have a red stripe running round them right? Maybe hes blacked it i guess. Looks clean though :)

Pretty sure all of the grilles are the same, apart from gt/g40 having a black vw bdage and gt/g40 red badge. Gt/G40 bumpers are also the same as normal ones apart from the red stripe like you said, allthough it does tend to peel off with age.

i'd only pay £800 if it's a GT mate, unless prices are different in N.Ireland

The only thing i was thinking is it seems like hes tryina justify asking that price because its apparently got all this stuff on it, which most of is jus standard cl stuff. If its mot'd and taxed id say £650 ish. Thats just me like but like adam said the only way id pay that much was if it was a GT. Good luck haggling mate lol :D

cheers buddy, i thought that £800 was a bit expensive, would love a GT but insurance in Northern Ireland is extortionate!! he has a GT as well with low miles but it has no front end :?
