Im looking for a GT,

Post by Mattclark »

Hey all,
Im after a GT, at the moment I have a mk2 Polo Coupe S which I enjoy driving, but I need a car with a little more poke so Ive set my heart on a mk3 1.3 GT. If any body knows a good website or magazine for GT sales please reply since I need a new car since my sister is getting my current car!
I already have a different post in the "Wanted Section"
http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... php?t=1961

If anyone could help that would be great!

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum.

There is sometimes a few GT's for sale on the club polo classifieds. Other than that, look through the autotrader and local ads etc.

Theres no reason why not to find an suitable example, if you are patient  and prepared to pay what they fetch.

Couple of things you might wanna look out for...

1) Water/petrol can collect under the arch trims and underseal and leave you with rust problems. Keep a good eye out for this. Also check the runners above the rear lights as dirt can collect, block the runners and cause rust too. These problems seem to be less severe with metallic cars.

2) Check where the petrol filler neck connects to the tank as they rust through. Mine was fine when I got it but on the way home I had a little off-road accident (adjusting to brakes  ) and it knocked the fuel filler neck pouring petrol everywhere

3) As Dan said, if you can pay the premium for a immaculate car. I bought a tatty one because I wanted the fun of doing it up and at the same time to learn more about cars. Its your choice really, but what annoys me is my GT is still off road waiting for a respray :( So if you want it immedeatly I would advise a clean example.

Thanks for the advice,
I missed out on one that had 90k, FSH, and 2 owners from new for £850 but it had been sold on Autotrader the day before, which was annoying cause I searced everyday that week and did not remember seeing it!

I dont mind waiting for it since it'll be worth it!
