Slow but then my 1.6 isn't any faster flat out. The 1.3 will sit at 70mph all day long happily and feels nippy enough around town so it's not too bad. On the plus side the steering s more pleasant than the 1.6 as the engine is a fair few kilos lighter.
To sum up I did 17000miles in my 1.3 over the last year, it did at least 40mpg (a bit more on a longer run), was totally reliable, comfortable and quiet and I'd have no qualms recommending one to anyone :)

They're rather short geared which helps make them feel lively, the gearing is similar to a mk3 GT which is a lot shorter than a mk3 55bhp!

I got an M reg 1.3L 49k on the clock, my needle on my dials just drop when im driving and then go back up again, no effect on the acceleration though.

Yeah I have an M reg 1.3l with 92k on the clock, does about 57mpg i thought that was bad, bin hearing lots of stories of 16vs doin 70+mpg. Never had a problem with mine. ill get some photos up soon.

oops, i mean i dont get more than 57miles out of two gallons, generally bang a tenner in my polo, two gallons. get about 25miles to the gallon, bit s**t really.

My 1.3 is pritty quick, mind you my engine is still young at 38.000 miles on a 'M'

I can get over 40 mpg in mine quite easily :D

The 1.3 isn't the quickest car in the world, but i think it's lively enough once it's warmed up.
