1997 R MK IV 8v Engine noise?

My other halfs car has started making a sort of 'chug chug' grinding type noise at a 'one-two' pace. Doesn't seem to go when it heats up & is starting to worry her. I've given the car the once over & think it might be a cam belt pretensioner as its coming from the timing belt area. Anyone experienced this on their car? Any advice or tips would be very much appreciated,

could be oil not getting through the engine quick enough? try changing the oil or adding an oil supplement to clean any blockages

Gave it a full service 2 months ago, new oil, plugs, HT leads & filters etc. Oil's fine, It's not tappety at all & there's no tell tale over heating signs to suggets the oil pump is playin up.

the only other thing i could suggest would be getting some 10k boost from Halfords and give the inlet a clean
