Advice.....?

Can anyone out there please give advice on how to improve your acceleration??

Cheap ways first if possible!!!

Just had a race with a passat estate and i struggled to see him off!!! Whats going on??

i guess you could get a K&N panel filter to help a tiny bit, whats your idea of cheap?

mine's all standard apart from the k&n panel filter which was on when i bought it, and i beat an audi 2.0 estate at the lights the other day

i was quite chuffd

More revs in lower gears

As M@turner said to me, make friends with Mr. Redline more often (but only when the engine is nicely warmed up)

i'd be well suprised if my mum said that, some blokes get well mardy if you beat them, shuda just slowed right down and put your rear fog light on or something lol

As the others said, you have to give it quite a lot of revs for a good start. The main reason for his is cause its a 16v and they usually have the best poke higher up the rev range. Ontop of that the polos gtis are tunned to rev pretty high (vvt). On a quick start I'd say you want to be setting off at about 3800rpm (peak torque @ 3400ish).

I raced a Audi a4 2.0 TDI (05 plate). Not from a standing start, about 50 on a dual carraige way. He had the edge I'd say, then at the rounabout he passed me on the exit (i was at 6000 rpm or there abouts).

I looked up the info for the audi and it has a 0-60 of 9.4 secs, and a top end of 133. Having said that it had feck loads of torqee (320Nm @ 1750rpm).

I would have liked to have raced him off the lights because its hard to tell if its the gearing. Dissapointed though.

I get panned by TDis on the motorway, again I put it down to high torque at very low revs. Whenever I take out the Golf TDi at work it has lots of torque but you usually run out of revs and hit the limiter when setting off quick.

I think it must be the Torque that does it with Diesels, Dino's 1.4 TDi pulled away from mine quicker on the motorway in whatever gear he's in, whereas top end, the GTi would beat it.

I just love it when you knock it down a gear to overtake

So how much and how easy are K&N panel filters to fit?

I'm looking to spend quite abit just not loads!!

i reckon the k&n are about Â£40? mine was already on the car when i bought it a few weeks back.

i guess if your looking to spend quite a lot, go for the BMC induction kit (im sure you've already read loads about it on here already)

Yes they fit and are about Â£160. I went from a K&N panel filter to the BMC and would choose the BMC every time now. Even with the big price difference.

Heres a pic of it on mine, there are lots of differnt ways people have mounted them though.
