Lucky for us the GTi is rare and getting more so. If you wait a few months till its summer you will probably find you will get more. Summer months people buy many more cars. I'm deciding now whether to keep it for long term. If its looked after it will hold its price very well.

Depends what effect, if any, the new Polo GTi has on values.

Can't really see it affecting values negatively, due to the long period between them being sold. If anything it may have a halo effect and stablise values as more people are aware of the wonder that is a Polo GTi.

I'm going to try and keep mine when I change cars is a couple of years, it's too nice to let go of, and no doubt they'll be even less of them left then!

Yar, spec wise the new gti is lower, albiet there is a more powerful engine. I will trade my GTi when I find something better within my budget, there is nothing on the horizon that meets my criteria except an S3 and that is stretching my budget some.

Only two viable options I've come up with are:

Mk5 Golf GTi (3 door, red, 18's, Interlagos cloth trim), or

Audi TT Quattro Sport (black roof, red body, fixed Recaro buckets).

Both a bit too far out of my price range for now though.

Likewise an S3 would be ideal, nothing wrong with my Polo just as with every car I've had I get a 2 year itch and want something newer. Maybe the price on a second hand MK5 Golf GTI might drop to say £15k in the next twelve months? If I'm being offered £3700 to trade in now what am I likely to be offered in 12 months time?

I want to try & keep my GTi when 'new car syndrome' hits the missus. But i fear it might go, because she will want a new house aswell. :)

Hmm possibly, i guess it depends on the milage, according to parkers, a 2005 54 plate with 10k on the clock is 16k from a private sale. Personally I think thats BS, id say 17k is more realistic. It also depends on the extras, the golf didn't come with xenons (I wont get a car without) and for the dsg box its gonna be more too.

I wouldn't want a car without Xenons again, not after having them.

I've been looking for a MK5 Golf GTI with Xenons they are very hard to come by, most with them also have leather whichputs the price up even more you are talking around 21k for a year old Golf with Xenons and leather from a dealer even privatly there 19-20k not exactly cheap ! Might need to sell a kidney or something

If you don't do a lot of miles there is a red Gti with 18" downsouth for 15k but it has 65k on the clock.

ive been desperately searching for a mk5 golf gti the last two weeks, seems that the missus wants one and it is not easy to change her mind, the best i found was 19,800 private sale with leather, xenons and 8k on the clock.

Have just bought an 04 plate TT 180 Quattro and the guy at Audi told me not to even ask about a trade in for the GTi as they would make me a silly offer. As a result, my wife and I now have three cars (TT, GTi and Golf TDi) until I can be bothered to sell the Polo. I'm only realistically expecting 4K for mine when I get round to selling it though.......

I was offered 4,300 as trade in by Ingrams, volkswagen dealer about month ago as a trade in for a Honda Type R, tried to claim this was above the book price, told them to shove it.
