Thanks for the comments, heres the answers to the questions in no particular order.
The swirls were mainly caused by the previous owner taking it through car washes and me using a sponge to clean the car possibly the worst thing to do beleave it or not. The dirt gets trapped between the sponge and the paint and puts the swirls in the paint, to prevent this I know use a lambs wool washmit and two buckets one for the soap and one to rinse the mit in once doing a panel (look at the amount of dirt that ended up in the rinse bucket !)
I shouldn't get too many swirls now I don't use a sponge, the finish as you see it was after only washing the car and drying off the little water that remained on the car, I polised and wax'd the car over a month ago ! the wax should need topped up every 3-4 months and the finish should remain nice and wet looking.
I used P21S Total Auto Wash to do the arches I gave them a blast first with the jet wash, sprayed the stuff on and rubbed it in with a sponge left it to de-grease for 15 mins and jet washed it off. You should have seen the pile of dirt that was left after I did this in each wheelarch.
Heres the guide I used to get the polisher Here on detailingworld I paid at the time £105 for it delivered.
The used products and costs.....
I washed the car first with Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds Car Wash £10.95 (you hardly use any for a wash though)
I then clayed the car with Clearkote Clay Bar using quick shine as a lubricant to get rid of paint contaminants such as tar spots (£20.95) (plenty quick shine left over)
I then polished the car with Menzerna Intensive Polish (I paid 12.95 but now 15.95)
Followed by Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze (8.95)
Then finished it off with Clearkote Carnuba Moose Wax (9.95)
It does add up to a lot however there is plenty of products left todo other cars or re-wax (I recon 5-6 coats of wax for the whole car from one bottle), these were recommended to me for a red car there are different combinations of waxes and glazes for other colours. I got them all from www.polishedbliss.co.uk Rich who runs the site will be more than happy to recommend products for the colour of your car as will people on www.detailingworld.co.uk

Very nice, I havnt splashed out on a PC yet but I was contemplating it. I use a sponge but I dont have many swirl marks at all, even after inspecting with a flourescent light. I always hose the car first and use lots and lots of water (usually 2 sponges too).
