just my thoughts about my little GTI

Post by psycho sport »

i ve had my silver gti for under 3 months and in that time have covered 3,500 miles.

Love it to bits!!

Feel abit guilty driving it hard cos the poor bugger has to rev high to get the performance out of it!

Performance in higher gears is suprising, 3rd gear pull is nice n strong.

My previous car was a 2.5 v6 vectra which i tuned up to 201bhp and 205 lbs/ft. Although performance of the gti doesnt come close to that it is by far the better car in every other way!!

One thing i have found is that cornering at highish speed the car seems very light at the front end. Any ideas of how to improve this?

Also i find there is a lot of chasis vibration over the front when taking tight corners and the front almost skips.

I dont drive like a prick or anything just some of the observations i ve made since having the car!

Have you thought about a strut brace for the front?

Agreed. That and fitting some good performance tyres. I find mine does the same though, in tight corners at speed, its probably that the car is approaching its limits and starting to lose grip/gain understeer

The GTi already has a 22mm lower strut brace. Mine was a bit messing in the corners, until i pulled my finger out and put coilovers on it.

Think i ll be investing in a top strut brace then!

How well does the gti handle on coil overs then? Must be pretty damn fun!

When time comes to change the tyres then think i ll be investing in some tip top rubber! Any recomendations?

Think goodyear F1's are going to be going on when the tyres next get changed! heard nothing but good things about them!

Going to order Front top strut brace £41 omp jobby.
Also is it worth going for the omp bottom omp strut brace, or is the standard one good enough?

Think also may go for an uprated anti roll bar.

Been looking at brake upgrades and think i ll be going for 280mm g60 setup!
Does anybody have any idea what braided hoses i can use with this set up?

Front lower strut brace as standard? :? 22mm anti roll bar yes, but I wasn't aware of it having a lower strut brace.

I fitted the OMP upper strut brace last year, tightened things up and improved initial turn in. Definitely worth doing.

GTI and coilover is FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) you can push it so hard you can control lift off overstear! hence I went threw a set of proxies in about 4 months and they where off the car for a month when my rims where getting done. The only way to go if you want the handling. Not that i drive like a lunatic or anything
