The MK1 Summer Project

Post by WildChild »

I am going to need a new set of tyres (x4) and i have decided that i am definately having the car resprayed, anyway, i have a very long summer (from June 1st - October 8th)..

A few questions really and if you could give your opinion or advice where you think its appropriate..

- Rub Down & Respray - Metallic Black
- Full New Set of ATS Classics
- New set of 4x 175/50´s

Now i´ve taken both front and rear bumpers off to clean the dirt off and derust the tow bar e.t.c with great success, the front bumper is fine, but the rear bumper was repainted with standard matte black paint (Brush) and looks horrible and was starting to chip, so i removed it again, sanded it down and Primed and Glossed with Black spray paint (taping the chrome then repolishing it - looks really good and neat), the front one however is light great, i will do the same unless anyone recommends anything else?

Theres been a few 1970´s MK1s for sale as spare parts, going for about 80 quid on fleebay, i was thinking of perhaps looking out for one, and taking the 1970´s bumpers off and placing them on my 1980 MK1..

(My girlfriend is buying me the ATS Classics & you get the 175/50s brand new with them, plus fitting for 325 quid..)

A few people have suggested rubbing my car down myself to save on the spraying, or to do it all myself..

If you could let me know what you think?

Also is it possible to get a new grill for the MK1, as mine has a crack in some of the plastic and would like to replace (with an original)..

Sounds like a solid plan.

Good luck. Make sure you get it to a show when you've finished!
