Totally agree with you mickymunn and loopy, I think VW have lost the plot, I certainly won't be buying a new VW ever again, my dad has a brand new golf tdi and that's been back in the garage 3 times in the 2 months he's owned it.

I've owned loads of older VW's and never had problem's with them it just seems to be the newer models, probably because there built in sweat shops in brazil.

My car's only done 21,000 miles and I've had a handfull of problems already, I bought it cos it was a 'sensible' choice but I should of bought a jap car, they never go wrong

Thanks for all the replies guys, was surprised to see this thread still going!

I'm glad my dad isn't alone with this problem but its very frustrating how all of you have had different things replaced but to no avail :(

Dads knocking is worse some days but then he can go a day without hearing anything. One knock yesterday, he said, felt like it was under his foot, so under the pedals kind of region. Whereas I've sat in the back and heard/felt a definate knock from behind me, ie the rear wheels area :?

Keep up the posts/or any progress guys, as will I :)

Btw thats what I said to the technician dude that it happens on uneven ground and he look confused!!

I've already had new wheel bearings... :?

My warrenty runs out soon, but they should tbh carry on fixing it because its obviously something wrong with the car!!

I'll let you know the results and also what "great" courtesy car they give me!! *please not another polo*

Did you get some kind of road noise then loopy? and stopped when wheel bearings were replaced?

is yours a 1.9 tdi aswell then? is this a problem with all polo's or just the sport suspension ones??

Think it's the sport suspension! mine is a 1.4 16v!

I've just turned up before at my dealer and they give me a car, because they know how peed off with them I am!

Can't say i'd have noticed any road noise, i tend to drive with the music turned up so I can't hear anything, because its makes me mad :?

I think it’s just the sports suspension which is prone to faults, mines a 1.9tdi also. I haven't noticed any road noise, have you checked your tyre pressure lately?

Mine goes in at the end of the month, but funnily enough it's not 'knocked' for a good week or so, probably because I've been avoiding all the speed humps :x I’ve had to put up with the rattling dash instead which is just as annoying :x

Right took car in yesterday morning, got call about 11 saying cr is done and can we go and collect. Get in there and they cant find any knocking noises :x :x Even though it is very intermitant.

The road noise issue was that he checked wheel bearing and said they were ok but rear 2 tryes were slightly distorted and recommended we replaced them. Ok fair enough i thought as they look quite old. Tread ok still but had the car 6 months now and done 16,000 miles.

The front 2 they said were slighty wearing on the inside so they said get the tracking, wheel alignment done. Ok i though.

VW qouted like £300 for the tryes and wait for it £ 99.95 for wheel alignment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would they charge £100 quid??? anyone know? please reply..

So took car to local garage and got quote on 2 new tyres, firestones, which were same as on the car and explained to them the situation, he came out checked tryes and said there was v slight distortion there but wasnt sure weather it was the tyres and didnt want to charge me for 2 new tyres in case it didnt solve it. Anyway he said let me swap fronts to backand vice versa, take it for a run and see if the noise is still there. Did that and noise was still there but coming from the front now!!! :D So got 2 new tryes fitted and wheel alingment (£22.00 NOT FECKING £100 AS VW QOUTED) and car is now running smoothly.

Just want to get the knocking sorted now even though its very intermitent.

£99.95 for wheel alignment!! that's a joke, I paid £12.00!!

I can't believe they haven't sorted out your knocking noise yet, did you have to pay for them to check it or is it still under warranty? Mine goes in at end of the month I hope they can find out what's causing it as mine's not under warranty anymore

Thats mental! Don't trust your VW Dealer!!

I now have a list to take to VW with me on Tuesday... it goes something like this...

1. Knocking noise (only 5th time)
2. CD Player skipping on unmarked ORIGINAL CD's
3. Didn't put my dashboard back together properly when they last took it to bits last time, so its rattling and squeeking like mad.
4. did VAG-COM check on it, and said that outside recirc is blocked or has no voltage?!?
5. Found a clip off something under the seat when i cleaned inside the car.

MY god how i love my car at the minute!!

Here is what has happened at Volkswagen this time

1. Knocking noise (only 5th time) - New and shiny shock absorbers

2. CD Player skipping on unmarked ORIGINAL CD's - They said they can't find anything wrong with it.

3. Didn't put my dashboard back together properly when they last took it to bits last time, so its rattling and squeeking like mad - Actually not looked at that :S

4. did VAG-COM check on it, and said that outside recirc is blocked or has no voltage?!? - They seem to think im making stuff up, because according to them there was nothing there?!?

5. Found a clip off something under the seat when i cleaned inside the car - Haven't seen the clip since and there was no mention of them putting it back or where it had come from?

This has put me to the conclusion that I won't be taking my car back to Gilders VW ever again!!
