Polo GTI Gearbox issue- yes another

Post by live2themaxuk »

Hi guys,

Car just been back from VAG garage. cause i had this rattling noise when cruising along (no accelerator, just in gear going along), like a bearing rattle sound, when i pushed in clutch, it went. Also got this rattle when my car was turned off as the engine slowed to a stop. I am still sure ut was a clutch release bearing but aparrenlt the gearbox has been stripped rebuilt and a few bearings replaced!

Well got it back, the cruise rattle is less but still there, and the car turn off rattle is still there. Also, the whole car 'judders' if i slipp the clutch on take off or between gears, its frikken gay. Im really not at all happy with my car at all atm. They prob didnt align the clutch plate when they fitted the gearbox back in again, bunch of novices

HELP ME DUDES ANY IDEAS

Hi James (welcome!),

I say: Go Back, and stay there until they acknowledge the problem and do something about it!

Check the 'topped' topic on gearbox problems as well.

If it's juddering, then it is almost certainly the release bearing. I had this judder on a previous car and a new one (and clutch plate) resolved it. If the release mechanism is worn, then it will judder as it's not releasing smoothly.

Get them to refit it before it damages it completely as you'll never get rid of the judder problem if the bearing and plate are misaligned anyway as it will cause excessive wear in the release bearing quickly and this is likely to be the noise you're getting.

Take it back pronto.
