ATS Classics & New Tyres, Help!

Post by WildChild »

I'm looking at buying some new ATS Classics, either 7x13's or 8x13's, at the moment i have 145/70 tyres and they are shocking when it comes to cornering (one of them is the original that came with the car and its still in good nick.. :O)

anyway.. i am planning on buying the ATS Classics start of June, but what should i get the 7x13's or the 8x13's, the 8x13's are about £100 more, which is £100 i'd rather not spend.. but can if the difference is worth it..

Also by the end of July i will have 4 new 175/50 13's on the ATS classics, problem i have is between me getting the new tyres and the new alloys i will be using 145/70s with the ATS Classics, will the 8x13's fit with these or be too wide?

I think you'll be best with 7s all round. Is there a choice of offsets ?

For reference purposes, this is and 8" on the front, with ET0

Its an MOT failure as the tread is outside the arch

Is there anyway of working out if mine will be "MOT Failurable"? 13x7 + 175/50?

Can probably estimate it if you know the offset

138& on 175/50/13 should be fine depend on your ET. My girlfriend runs 13*7 ET5 on her RG11 wheels (when they are back form the refurbers) and the tread sticks out the front on her Mk2 by an inch! But at the rear, they sit perfect, just legal. Classics on an ET20 should be fine!

Haven't got any pics of a tyre but you should be able to see.

Its the difference between the back space and the midline of the wheel

Image

The rule of thumb is, the lower the offset, the more they stick out.

Sorry Steb, i dont understand that bloody picture at all, which part of my physical wheel do i measure it?

that picture doesnt even vaguely resemble a tyre lol! (well not to me anyway..)

I understand the idea of the offset is between what ever and what ever, but how do i work out whats the biggest tyres i can get for my Polo without them being illegal..!
