Best route for fitting a sub?

Post by Luke'sGti »

Hi guys,

I'm a new member, so please bear with me. And i have been a proud owner of my polo gti for just over a week :)

I am looking at fitting my sub and amp etc and wondered if any of you guys could tell me the best point where there may be a "gromit" to run the power cable through from the battery. Also is there anything else i should watch out for on wiring it up?

I hope all that makes sense :? Thanks for your help. :D

TOok me hours to do and find one.

behind and up the passenger foot well, there is a black tube comes though, (for rear wiper wash) put the cable through there its a bit of a squeeze but it will go though. I couldnt get to it engine>in, its easier inside to >engine

The problem is the gromit is so tight I takes a good lot of work getting the wire through. And its right at the least accessable place behind the dashboard typically

no rude comments please

From inside the car you need to try and force your finger through the grommit to make room, then use the coat hanger with wire attached to push through, dont pull your finger out until you're sure the wire is through then gently push. have a nother guy in the engine bay look out for the wire coming through until her pulls the coat hanger cos thats were we kept losing it.

Hope that helps

well, i went a tried my best guys. Took half my dashboard to bits, to find no easily accesible gromit, to then after a couple of hours find a gromit at the top of the carpet under the glovebox :x (so i didn't need to take my dash off in the first place)

So wired it all through, the sills etc were pretty easy to run the wires under. All was going well, till i turned everything on and.......NOTHING HAPPENED

Eventually found out it seems to be a faulty powercable, so i have been out to buy another amp wiring kit, roll on round 2 tonight. Think i will test it first before wiring through this time

p.s. does anyone know any good earth points in the boot for my amp? cheers

Up by the 12v adapter there is a screw to the chassis which was my earth point- that's in the boot.

The easiest route into the car is just above the brake pedal. There is a large unused grommet just there which you can see in the engine bay just behind the main engine cover.

0awg- lol. Have fun.;)

This grommet you speak of sounds useful, will poke my head up behind the pedals to find it hehe, in case I ever need to feed any wires thru etc... :)

p.s. is this not for the clutch cable? or is defo unused?
