Considering selling my GTI

Been thinking about getting rid of the gti as i miss my old mk2 golf too much and want to get another one.

Just wondering how much you guys think i could get for my gti.

The spec is:

2000, W reg
Black magic metallic
92,000 miles
12 months MOT
Full vw service history - Just been serviced
FK highsport coilovers
BMC carbon air filter
Full ss exhaust system
Black door panels as opposed to red
New gearbox and clutch from VW - Cost Â£1800! Still has over a year left on warranty.

The car has been looked after, its got a few little dings but nothing major. Just been MOT'd. Rear discs were advisory and it's having them next week.

Here are some pics, the exhaust is going, i have a new rear bumper thats all painted and ready to go on.

That is quite a high mileage, Id post for Â£4000 and acept 3500

You gotta be joking, i know the milage is high, but its been very well looked after. Wouldn't be worth selling for that price with the cost of the gearbox!

You will probably get more if you put it back to standard and sell the mods separately.

Vr6 is correct, people see mods on a car and assume its been driven hard and not looked after. Obviously this is not always the case but you should def change it back to standard.

92K is a tad high, obviously for a VW it should be no problem, average milage for a GTi of 6 years is about 72k.

I have decided not to sell the GTi as I believe it will become a rare classic like the Mk1 golf GTi. I've spent so much on the car and replaced lots of worn parts to make it look mint, my advice is to do the same. The car doesn't look dated and its already 6 years old.

I sold a Red, W reg VW Polo GTI with 45K, for Â£4,700 yesterday.
Your Vehicle is worth around Â£3500- Â£4,000.

To be honest, I'm rather sceptical of the Polo GTi becoming a classic in the spirit of the Mk1 Golf. The Mk1 Golf GTi was a revolution in its time, and most importantly received tremendous praise from the automotive press, and still does today. The Polo GTi is a good car, however it lacks those two things which make the Golf a legend. It was never exceptionally received by the media, nor did it 'move the game on' in any real way. Don't get me wrong, I love my GTi I just don't regard it as a form of investment.

I would be more inclined to suggest that the Lupo GTi, would be more likely to reach some kind of classic status. Mainly due to its greater inherent rareness combined with the positive press response it got.

Sad but true, to sell faster (and sometimes for a higher price) you might have to go back to standard on as many parts as are possible.

Let us know if you decide to put the car back to standard though, as UK-P is a prime site to sell off those parts. For example I would be interested in the BMC if its in good nick

However, wether you sell with or without mods, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to get Â£4,500 for your GTi IMHO?

Unfortunately for the polo I think thats true, the polo is a quite rare lovely looking and nice car, but i'd image just nothing like the mk1 golf gti to drive

The lupo is even rarer, has a much similar size and weight to the golf and is loads of fun ! I loved my polo (looks more aggressive than the loop, got no climate or aircon in the loop!) but the lupo feels like a proper little gti and is just alot of fun !

@ Si - I took my bmc off the polo when I sold it and 95% sure i'm selling it as any mods would invalidate the insurance on the lupo

Its in perfect condition (been on the car for about 5 thousand miles) and i've got a crankcase filter with an aluminium joiner so it correctly attaches to the pipe (took me ages to get the right combination). PM me if you're interested

Painful to think of what they are worth when you get alot for your money in the car.

If you get what i mean.

While you are right about the car not being special in terms of being revolutionary, I still think its gonna be a rare, sort after classic. After all it was the most powerful Polo out of the factory to date (bar the newest baby golf gti), and its also the highest spec, not even the 9n3 gti has xenons standard. I still think its gonna hold its own, there is only a couple of thousand of them in the UK.

Lupo is more rare but as everyone usualy always says, its too small to be practical (and the front end looks a bit soppy).

Depreciation does suck though, when I find a worthy replacement I'll change, prolly wont be for a while.

High mileage is a killer when it comes to re-selling cars, although the GTI engine is practicly bomb-proof and will run up 200,000 miles with no major problems.

Your right about that. Thats why i've decided that i'll end up keeping mine no matter what. Plus the GTI is my first car and for this reason i'll always have a special sentimental attachment to it.

I dont beleive all this "standard car is best for sale stuff" my last 2 cars where quite heavily modified and i manged at least a grand more for both of them then anyone else was getting.

Its all in the way you sell it.
