Brake-pad recommendations

Post by Wardy »

Just piecing together the parts for a 280mm upgrade at the moment, as it was found at service that the front discs and pads need replacing anyway, so might as well upgrade at the same time :D

Got some Brembo 280mm discs coming, G60 carriers and just need to sort out pads now.

I've heard good things about the EBC Greenstuff pads, both in performance and also minimal brake dust? Or Black Diamond - can these be had for the GTi?

Places to get them at good prices would also be great. Had a look on Motorsport World website but couldn't come up with anything suitable?

Cheers,
Steve

how much is it all costing you?

I ve ordered all my stuff for the G60 upgrade and its come to £206. Thats for VW discs, Carriers and Pagid fast road pads.
Getting it all fitted on Wednesday! soo excited!

Why did you go for brembo discs?

Pagid fast road pads seem to be the choice for the Golf (and Polo GTi) modders who chose the 280mm upgrade - you can get them from GSF!

I've got Black Diamond Predator pads all round and haven't got a bad word to say about them, they're great. Lots less brake dust and improved bite :)

I bought Brembo Max discs and Greenstuff pads for mine

Excellent combo and very little brake dust. 8)

Thanks for the replies guys. I went for the Brembo discs because they were offered to me! Brand new at £50 for the pair seemed reasonable :D

Got some 280mm carriers for £55. So whatever the pads cost on top will be my total costs.

I'll check GSF - hadn't looked there yet.

Make sure you get the G60 pads also, cause G60 discs are 3mm thinner
than our stock one.

As for the pads, G60 is 4mm thicker, so total you will get 8mm more
in total. If you use stock POLO GTI pads with G60 disc, you are lossing 11mm already.

I m pretty sure most advice from the board would suggest using gti brake pads, as the g60 ones dont fit the calipers properly.

I have got the 280mm brake upgrade and still using the polo gti pads, so don't waste your money getting g60 pads

Nope, I wasn't going to get G60 pads anyway. Just after recommendations for decent fast-road pads really, since I was upgrading everything else.

But yes, as the caliper's staying the same, I'll be using pads for the GTi.

What do you use?

Not sure to be honest! Think they're standard, which I'm fine with anyway.

Can you do me a link to Pagid pads on GSF please? I can't seem to come up with any products for the GTi when I was on the website earlier. Probably me having a blonde moment

On the carriers - send me a PM :D

According to my measurements ,the GTI one is almost
the same as G60 one, excepted the shouder size which ment to fit
the carrier side.Also the thickness.

Well, I was using Golf VR6 pads with stock GTI calipers,
I think there's no VR6 in UK.But it's the same with G60 one.

They are only cheap OEM brand "Remsa", doing better than the POLO GTI
EBC V4 pads on the same 280mm setup.
I think EBC V4's are crap, and it generates noise on low speed braking,
and dusty as well.
