I'm stupid...i think?

Am i right in thinking the GTi is a natural aspirated engine?

If thats the case, then can you put carbs on the engine? what would you do about the air filter?

(p.s im not the best with engines

)

Yes mate, its 100% a naturally aspirated engine! No idea on the carbs question though

I can answer the first bit.

Yes it's a Naturally Aspirated engine, as for carbs I have no idea.

I can check the oil and top the water up

Why you would want to swap a perfectly good fuel injection system for carbs I'm not sure.

Just curious about it, not even looked into it...saw a few cars at Mallory Park today with carbs and got me thinking, thats all.

I think you usually have Naturally Aspirated or Turbo or Supercharged.

Naturally aspirated means that there is no forced induction of air into the engine. Air is drawn in by the opening of the inlet valves. This is what the vast majority of normal road cars have, like the 6N2 GTi.

The alternative is forced induction, which typically uses either a turbocharger or supercharger to force air into the engine. Or in the case of the new Golf GT Twincharger, both.

Carbs might be possible. People do it with the older mpi engines so maybe the new ones too?

Bike carbs, one per cylinder = lots of petrol = more power - for a guess at why you would do it?

Yes but the GTi has VVT which works in conjuction with the injectors and the electronic ignition module. So i would guess that would be hard to make work well. Maybe carbs would produce better low end grunt.

At what revs does the VVT kick in? Was just after a definite answer, as I think it's about 5500?

Cheers for that info, i didn't think of the VVT!

And the VVT kicks in about 3500ish rpm

Thats correct, the VVT starts around 3500, and the valves are fully open at 5250. I generally notice the pull of the VVT at around 4-5k (and my smile gets bigger)
