Well the engine goes straight in, so does the charger, no need for cutting the slam panel. The main issue is the intercooler, being which one to use. Mk2 G40 ones are rocking horse s**t to get hold of one. We used a mk3 one and cut away the cross member (but braced and welded up elsewhere) and cut a big hole in the front valance which when the bumper is on you can't really see it but does get alot of air. We still used the coupe S fuel tank but really you want to change to a mk3 item as its bigger, and your not filling up every day or so. With using the mk2 tank though, as it a bottom feed, the G40 pump was put next to the spare wheel well in line with a mk3 filter aswell. G40 ECU just slots into the original ECU holder that there on the mk2 Coupe S (well it was on ours). Rev counter needs one wire to be connected to use 12v supply rather than the mk2 5v (i think) so that will work with the Mk3 wiring loom. But thats mk2 clocks, we used the mk3 G40 clocks. Oh and the mk2 windscreen bottle was moved into the bulkhead space as the mk2 coolant bottle sits in its place.pbreno wrote:is it hard 2 fit the g40 engine into the coupe s and what else do you need?
Think thats it.
Got a poloace chip for it, was gonna get a 65mm pulley for it but none availabel at mo and im not paying for new. Gonna wait out a month and get a g-laderseite G60 style surpentine belt setup on a 68mm pulley. Brian at jabbasport rebuilt and serviced my custom diy full blend+ charger for just £150 which was nice and he's gonna give me a G60 65mm pulley for free. The 51mm throttle body will be done at some point too, may get a spare one so the car's not off the road.
Although, a G60 charger seems to be looming for this polo.
A friend has given me a G40 final drive (rack and pinion) so will get that fitted onto the 1400 16v box as this polo's getting quite quick to 100mph now.
SteB: cheers. not been able to get them done yet. My dad's a welder but been too buy at work to do them for free so may get them done somewhere. Need to cut and prep them before anyways. She's dying to have her old RG11 wheels back on.
All this and get my race car done and the 1.8T engine fitted aswell. busy busy
Cheers
