1.3 GT (3f) engine and 1.3 supercharged G40 (py) engine.
these should both go in pretty easily as long as you have all the associated bits (loom ECU etc)

Have Patience, Young Paduan

Pretty much any Mk 1/2/3 Polo engine will go in, it's just how much jigging about with vacuum hoses and wiring you're prepared to go in for.

The easiest way would be to go for a 1.3 Single Point, as this is almost a straight swap with no woring to do. If you're up to a bit of wiring, a GT's probably the best bet for the money.

However, if you're just coming off a ban, your insurance is going to be high, and an engine swap could quite easily put it more towards stupidly high.

 Hmmm was hoping for something a bit more tasty like 1.6 or 1.8, also i imagen it will be hard to source a 1.3 gt lump theese days

ok then say if i go for the 1.3i, can i buy cams for it etc and stuff to actully upgrade my engine, me mates are a whizz when it comes to mechanics, but their love is for fords, but there willing to help me and (like i say) have a good knowlege on mechanics, but not vee dubs?!?

i think u could probably get a mk4 1.4 16v (100bhp) engine in there. i've seen one put in2 a mk1 polo in belgium!
would be a fair amount of work involved tho!!

Drop in a 1600 16v out of the polo gti, nice and easy 125bhp straight off and revvy. Goes straight in and can use a 085 gearbox. Put throttle bodies on it! 8) Perhaps sum complete 40mm Jenvey ones for £400? Run on megasquirt, nice and cheap and heady power. That or carbs, alot of rally cars run 1600 16v on carbs, revs the nuts off them, sounds awesome!

GT engines (3F) can easily get them from Sandburn Auto's in Coventry.
