Help think i've been caught for speeding!

Post by Silky V »

I was travelling down a dual carridgeway at 50Mph at the speed limit. I then got to a roundabout where after the speed limit increases to 70Mph. I was doing 40-45Mph round the roundabout and there was a white van parked up on the side. I saw a flash in my rear view mirror.

Just worried that I may have points on my license now. I've had a clean license since I passed my test. :(

Anyone experienced the same thing? :(

If you were doing 40-45mph and the limit was either 70mph or 50mph then your not speeding or am i reading it wrong?

Nah your reading it right. But i'm just worried about something flashing at me.

I don't want points on my license otherwise my insurance will go up.

Well if you weren't speeding then it's not an issue.

Plus as far as I'm aware mobile camera vans dont use flashes. They use a digital camera to record those who are speeding.

Think you're worrying over nothing!

Just I was flashed the other day as well by an infra-red camera when I was doing the speed limit. If I get both speeding tickets through, i'll have 6 points on my license and i'll end up losing it because I haven't had it for 2 years yet.

From what I undestand you were not speeding so stop stressin.

If you get 6 points ask somebody to say they were driving. will take some persuasion (unless they like you) but its better than starting from the beginning

As Redline says, the way the mobile vans work is they are constantly videoing then when a car is coming towards them over the limit the operator presses a button which takes a photo of you :D

Best thing to do is to wait and see if you get anything through, and most importantly don't worry until it does if it does. 8)

From what I've read above... we've come to a conclusion you weren't speeding, so you cant get a fine for that.
Other thing that comes to mind are there trafic lights and you went through a red (thus the reason for the flash)?

I know its easier said than done but try not to worry... if something comes through the post, cross that bridge when it comes to it.

Thanks for all your input guys. Just going to have to wait and see then. I'm calming down now. Just started to panic as i've never really been in trouble and i'm quite a safe driver.

Well i've just got a letter through saying i was caught doing 40mph in a 30mph zone. Knew i'd been flashed but someone who was in the car said that it normally doesn't have a film in. I was praying she was right but it wasn't to be.

Gutted.

Wouldn't have minded but i was 200miles away from home, and just dropping some mates off after a night out.

Will my insurance go up now then?

^ As long as they're not deducting points from your licence, your insurance wont go up.

Might be a silly question, but anyone know how quick the mobile van cameras are? I was doing 90 coming down a dual carrigeway hill, which swoops to the left, as soon as i spotted them i was well heavy on the brakes, but im wondering whether i was quick enough! My plate may have been hiden slightly cause from the angle, another car was slightly to the left of me, so....! Suppose i'll find out shortly anyway.
If the car is registered under my mums name will the DVLA address it to her??
Cheers
