Time to move on

Post by frazzle »

So after a long weekend of discussion we've decided to change the polo for something sensible and diesel. We need more room for impending junior and want to get something new with plenty of warranty. Likely to be an astra or focus as you seem to get a lot for your money, and the new designs are much better than the old. So we are off out today to see if we can seal a deal.

I guess I had to grow up one day. Thank god I still have the 250bhp Saab!

The new Astra and Focus are good cars and looks good too, even though they are common. How much do you have to spend?

That's me back and about to be the owner of a 6 month old focus zetec 1.6tdci. It's actually very impressive - it's got some poke, sports suspension and seats, alloys, air con and a heated front screen and washer jets. It feels solid, handles well, and best of all has 2 1/2 years warranty left. It'll be sad to see the polo go but i need more room and a bit of peace of mind. It goes on wednesday.

Cripes that was quick! Well, sad as it is to see the Polo changing hands, sometimes we have to grow up just a little bit eh. I'm sure the Focus will be a solid and reliable motor (no sarcasm intended so please don't look for any!!). You'll be joining TSN's 50+mpg club now then :D

No sure if a ford owner would be welcome on there - it's a goodsite but they can get a bit snooty, and no sarcasm taken :D . Focus is a good car and does what we need it to do on the cheap so its a good decision. I drive the saab most of the time so it's not all bad 8)

frazzle - are the Rondell's going with the car, or are you looking to sell them?

Rondells have gone with the car unfortunately - seems a waste but i posted the bbs to the buyer about 2 weeks ago.

Matt - it turned out that the gearbox was fine - it was a replacement drive shaft - but I couldn't get the mechanics advice out of my head, and in the end what I need now is a guarantee that there will be no massive bills over the next year or two. The focus is fine - but I won't be out cleaning it every weekend like the polo.

Gutted to be honest but the plan is to have 3 or 4 years of cheap diesel running and then see if we can have some pennies for the current golf gti. Like I say, I've still got the saab so it's not all bad.

Would still like to pop by this forum every now and again tho'

yeah, he told me that it's not a case of if the gearbox goes, but when. Sods law tells me that if I sell it, it will run for 50k trouble free, but if I keep it it would go in a month. I don't want the gearbox to go with the mrs, junior, and baby junior all in tow, so i'd rather get something that is warranteed for 2 1/2 years.

Hopefully someone will buy it from a garage, and if the gear box goes it will be covered.

feel like I've sold my soul to the devil :)
