Brake upgrade

Post by Jay's MK4, Euro Stylee! »

Hi all,

Rite wat i was wundering, is if anyone knows of any str8 swap brakes from bigger vw's that wil retro fit the mk4 polo, i was thinkin along the lines of brakes of diameter around 280mm.

i bet there aint is there, thats one thing that annoys me about these polo's, nothing seems to retrofit very easily, and everything u do to a polo costs s**t loads.

Reason i thort of this is because, A) i want bigger brakes, mainly for the looks, cuz my car aint particularly fast, n B) my mate has just acquired a set of vectra v6 brakes 288mm diameter for his nova, and they literally just bolt str8 on! y cant stuff be that simple for us eh!

depending on when your car was produced and what its spec are, some of the mk4 hubs work with G60 280mm brakes.

A straight swap, for VAG brakes

You'll need the discs, calipers, caliper carriers and pads

Get them from VAG-Parts

you can fit gti brakes on but you need the 16v hubs again the g60 carriers will give you 280mm but you need 16v hubs aswell.

okies thanks guys,

i mite look into gettin a set of 16v hubs so i cant sort meself with the g60 brakes. thats assumin the 16v hubs will directly fit my 8v. n just to correct myself over my mate avin any difficulties findin the discs for his nova, i was wrong, they just drill out the ones for the veccy, apparently they do it as a brake upgrade at the place where he works.

i really hope i can fit these larger brakes as mine are a wee bit gay, they aint very postive at all, and they look pretty puny behind my wheels.

thanks again, jay

Ive got mk2 golf gti 256mm brakes on mine with 16v hubs. Im sure the calliper carriers and callipers were changed too when it was done. The stopping power now is much better than the standard 8v brakes. I would have gone bigger but then I would only have been able to fit 16s over them, meaning i wouldnt be as low as i am now.

Cool, yeah i was thinkin bout doin the s56mm upgrade before, but i think for the looks i deffo want 280mm, i know they will deffo fit under my 15s.

When u guys say G60 brakes will fit, would this matter wether its a Golf or a 'Rado G60? cuz if poss id rather try n find a set at a breakers, or buy sum second hand than buy new uns.

And also will the 16valve hubs direct fit my 1.4 8v?

Thanks for your help dudes, jay
