Door Lock Thwarts Use Of Car

Post by WildChild »

Yes my driver side door lock went this morning, couldnt open my door, was sealed shut..

So i took the interior off and removed the nuts/bolts as to remove the door and finally got it off..

problem is my door lock is broken on the door, so i need a replacement or a new one for an MK1, does anyone know where i can get one or get this fixed, because for the moment my car is now officially off the road as it doesnt have a door that can go on / shut properly..

Aren't MK1 Polo handles same as MK2/3 Polos and MK1 and MK2 Golfs?

If so, you should be able to get one from the scrappy, then swap the tumblers over in order so your key works in the lock.

I fear I havn't fully understood the whole story.

You tried to open the door from the outside?

Could you see what's wrong with the lock? I'm asking this because on my MKII there are coming three metal levers/pushers/rods or the like from the inside of door into that door lock. Those metal levers/pushers/rods seem very robust to me, the same as the door lock.

Could it be that there is only a spiral spring broken that you could fix botching it in the meantime?

I don't know actually the MKIs, but I paid on the scrap yard for a MKII one 10 £. That's quite expensive but I had no time to look around.

Pretty sure they're common to Mk 1/2/3 Polo and Mk 1/2 Golf/Jetta.

Took the door down to my MOT garage where they had alook at it.. turns out it was because some of the metal in the door latch was bent, they "unbent" it ;), regreased it and cleaned it for me :) all working and fine now.

Also fixed problem with coolant leaking.. or know what it is, the water pump seal is broken, so i need a replacement, gonna get it done tomorrow :)
