oh no!

Post by SpikeyG40 »

ummm, i think i may have just blown my supercharger!

on my way home from college, booted it off a roundabout, revved up, cloud of smoke out the back, engine note changed and a severe power drop!

the car still runs but not driveable if that makes sense!

and so close to inters! bugger it!

Regards
Doug

What other symptoms? Was it misfiring prior to that?

no miss fires, car runs but the note of the engine completely changed, alot more worring from the charger but no sorta growl that she had!

i had a sudden thought it was a piston gone but it still runs smoothly!

Take off the charger belts and run to see if it still makes the noise. If you'd melted a piston I'd expect there to be lots of oil all over the shop, and the car'd be running like a sack of s**t.

You shouldn't run a G40 with the lader attached if you suspect it's screwed, it just makes repairing things more expensive...

As said above, check its actually the supercharger thats the problem.
If thats the case, Nextday Parcel (£20 special delivery with royal mail) it down to pitstop developments and pray that steve can turn it around in time

A little update!

Charger looks and sounds fine! i've inspected it and i am confident in saying that its not the charger!

However, i noticed not alot coming out of the exhaust, so i'm suspecting the cat as collapsed and is blocking the pipe. its currently in the garage for them to inspect it and fit (if needed) a new full standard exhaust system!

Fingers crossed for inters! however, if the G40 isn't ready i'll be going in my old mk3! after the G40 broke down, i needed a car mainly to get me to inters but also use to get to work etc. so i got the ball rolling for the old girl, and after a new centre box, she passed the MOT with flying colours! she isn't as clean as i would hope, but i will be cleaning her big time before inters incase the G isn't ready!

HOpe it all works out fine! If it is the cat, good excuse for a de-cat

well, spoke to the garage, the cat is fine! its the back box! they took the exhaust off leaving the cat in place and ran it, it was fine with plenty of oomph! the back box rattles! that what you get for a pattern one!

so ok, order up a new back box (and centre box while i'm there) from vw. no problems there as long as i don't mind waiting 7-10 days for it! :?

So, what does this mean, it means the G40 will NOT be going to inters! unless by some how the garage can get rid of all the stuff out of the backbox, it won't be going!

At least i have the blue one i spose! :P
