I just noticed But think it may have been like this for a long time. If I stop fairly suddenly when driving over bumpy roads I get a lot of feed back on the brake pedal so much feed back that its enough to push the brake pedal back towards me even against the full pressure of my foot pushing down on it. With repeated tests it does this all the time and is a bit frightning to feel this heavy juddering feeling under your foot. However, on a nice smooth road its absolutely fine. Has anyone seen the same thing has anyone tried this out. Im pretty sure the car isn't supposed to do that. Can ayone help with this matter
marc, mine does the same and i am fairly certain that its ok. Whats happening is that the cars Electronic Stability Programme and ABS functions are kicking in and taking over! If your braking harshly from a fairly high speed, the brake sensors indicate that you could be in danger. The car will then regulate the braking pressure applied in order to stabilise the car more - primarily to prevent the car skidding, especially in wet/icy weather conditions.
Same happens to me, I asked VW about it and they just said "nothing to worry about, its the ABS doing its job" It felt like the brake disc was coming off or warped! Scary.
It's just the ABS letting you know it's doing it's thing.
Nothing to worry about.
Only start to worry if your brake pedal starts vibrating when you brake lightly on a very flat smooth road. (that could mean your discs are warped or something more sinister)
Cheers for the confidence boost guys. I've had quite alot of problems with the car so far and have found my self questioning every little quirk with the car. This web site has been so good for information from what seems like a very good bunch of guys.
I know exactly what you mean, I've only had my motor just over a couple of months but it's been back to the dealers three times to have minor things looked at...I remember VW have a reputation of being reliable? My first Polo had no problems the whole year I had it and I drove that one hard!
