Trim Removal & Fitting (Photoshop hmmm)

Post by WildChild »

This morning i removed the plastic&chrome trim from around the car and proceeded to clean all the grot that was stuck under neith it and polish off the marks left subsequently, once it was done i took a step back and look at the car and was suprised at how much better it looked without the uneccersary trims..

Obvioulsy the clips that hold the trims on are still in place, but my question is, has anyone removed the trims permenentely off an mk1? and did u fill the small holes left when u also remove the clips that hold the trim on?

(some of mine have disintergrated with old age and i am missing the odd clip on some of the panels:

Should i just remove the trims & all the clips and leave it?

Should i just remove the trims & all the clips and fill the holes in and then do a tiny tiny paint over area thats filled?

or what?

:retard:

baring in mind also that i will be having this resprayed & rubdown as of the end of the summer (to its former original glory without any rust)

Here is a picture without the trim bits that i photoshopped:

Personally I prefer the cleaner look unless every single bit of chrome is present (metal bumpers and all)

Getting those holes filled and smoothed will bump up your respray bill quite a bit. Just a thought.

Well what i was really asking was could i not just do it myself? they are only tiny holes so why cant i fill them myself then just paint the tiny holes that have been filled and smoothed?

if i do it carefully it will surely not show?

each hole would need welding then grind the welds back and a skim of filler over the top to do it properly.

if you just fill it the filler will eventually crack out of place and fall off!! like some peoples numberplates
