Cracked Head? either way i need a 1.05 head!!

Post by edjohnson »

Done the head gasket on me polo on the way from shoppin with the mrs. so i blame her. no compression, running on two cylinders.

got the head off, yep the gasket was blown between one and two.

checked head with straight edge, perfectly flat, and no visibale cracks new gasket, bolted it down.

next day, test drive, ok, not ok.

head gasket still seems to be gone? heated up, and consatnt bubbles being blown into coolant in header tank. -(

head off again, new bolts, new gasket, thought maybe i messed the rubber seal up wen replacing the head, so new gasket, used old bolts with heads cut off as locating dowels, (thanks dad!)

any way, same problem, gas still present in cooloant.

not cost that bothers me, just time it took and lack of car!! (the mini is still not back on the road either!)

so any was wonderin if anyone had ANY idea to what might be wrong? i reckon its gotta be cracked.

so has any one got a 1.05 head knocking about? for 93 L reg polo?

will a 1.3 head fit, or is it a different bore as well as stroke?

any help much appreciated.

i think you may get away with using a 1.3 head aslong as the cams are swapped over. i done it the opposite way around on my mk2 engine with no problems.
