ebc green stuff brake pads

Post by Tom »

Just been reading my mates max power, and one advert had these ebc greenstuff brake pads. they say they're supposed to be the best pads on the market and reduce brake dust on your alloys by 60 to 90 percent. Just wondering if anyone has fitted them on there gti and what tey're like.

cheers

I had them on my old MK4 and my mate had them on his Lexus, neither of us thought they were much cop.

I use Pagid Fast Road pads on my GTi and I swear by them.

Yes, they're dusty, but boy do they stop you!

Just wash your wheels more often!

Whilst we are on the subject, whats with the 'braided hoses'? What and how do they improve the braking as I drove a new Polo today and you could tell how spongey my brakes are on the GTI.

Chris

The GTi brakes aren't spongy (or at least they aren't on mine) but I do know what you mean.

I think the word you are looking for is progressive.

No, they don't instantly bite (like my current hire car - New Megan - does). They provide feel, feedback and control.

I notice it whenever I drive a "normal" new car. Base Model New Polos, This Megan, Fiat Brava, etc etc etc... The brakes on all these cars, to me, seem to be either on or off. Lightly touch the brakes and you start to slow, apply a tiny bit more pressure and they are on full!

The GTi's brakes on the other hand, don't come on fully until you stand on them... Which is how I like it.

Anyway, Braided hoses are meant to give a little more pedal feel under exreme braking, as the brade stops the rubber hose swelling up when the brake fluid is boiling and you are standing on the pedal.

Hope this answers your question!

Has anybody fitted Rotordiscs, they do them for the GTi front and rear. They look cool, just wondered if they are!

Cost approx £120 per pair

those are one of the things i've always wanted but never got round to buying. they have been proven to work on bikes - but i've not heard anything about cars yet.

let us know if you get them...

Yeah, I know what you mean about new normal cars Josh. When ever I move my parents 306, I go to press the brakes and they are ON. Not like polo's where they seem more progressive, especially Mk 3's !

I have EBC greenstuff pads on mine. They seem ok, but I installed them with a complete brake upgrade. I might change to ferodo or pagids next.
