My Impressive MPG (or atleast i think so)

Post by WildChild »

Just literally got back about an hour ago from the isle of wight, we've got a holiday cottage down their in the middle of the sticks next to the sea and i drove all this way:

Norwich (home) > Kent (stop off to see some old friends) > Portsmouth (ferry) > Isle of Wight

The journey down their was 283 Miles and when i started i had literally an empty tank and stuck £22 of unleaded in :) and made it all the way to the isle of wight just before i hit empty the orange empty marker :D

Thats 58.93 and i was doing 60-70mph the whole way down give or take 5mph :D

And on the way back i went Isle of wight > portsmouth > Norwich (234miles) and i did it on £17 and with alittle left over (hadnt hit the white marker let alone the orange warning) (about 63/64Mpg)

Not only that but i had absolutely no weird noises, nothing break or fail on me, no leaks e.t.c and nothing fall off (despite going round a country lane at about 55mph and hitting a tiny bridge that acted as a jump ramp for my car scaring the s**t out of me lol

 :o omg i love my car so so much now!

good effort, but you know the only reliable way to measure your mpg is to brim the tank each time. You may find that your mileage is being aquired faster too due to reduced rolling radius with your new wheels and tyres.

Best I ever get out of mine is 50mpg and that;s if I'm at a constant speed less than 60.........at 70mph the mpg drops to about 40 or high 30s

haha, i don't even bother checking my MPG nowadays got a bit disheartened, probably as a result of my carb being badly adjusted and my lack of being able to keep my right foot OFF of the floor.

i think it's just me but i really do find it impossible to drive slowly on the motorway??? if you cruise at 60-70 you end up getting cut up by lorries every couple of seconds, if i cruise at 80 then i have no problems at all

as for in towns, it's just plain more fun to make use of the polo's nippyness

i bet if you werent accelerating like a mad man and just cruising you did do damn near those figures mate and i am impressed. I got 48mpg out of a 2.0litre GTI on a 100mile run, so i bet you probably got that out of you 1.3. Here's the eveidence:

You might think that's good, but I can nearly get that out of a 2.5 V6 on the motorway :P
