Servicing Q's (new member)

Post by Mike2006 »

Hey everyone, im currently looking for a polo gti to replace my 1.0 n reg beast. went to look at 1 last week but some things about its past didnt quite add up so i left it.

Anyway, i was just wondering, at what mileage or after how many years does the cambelt need replacing on the Gti? and does anyone know how much vw charge for a typical service?

Ive been reading the forum for a while now, just never signed up for some reason, some of the gti's in the photo gallery are sweeeet! cant wait to get mine!!

Cheers!

Mike.

The Cambelt change is recommended at 60k, the 60k service at my dealer is about £205 and the cambelt is £405 although it varies from dealer to dealer.

I'm just too lazy to shop around

Welcome to the forum. A visit to a VW specialist is recommended for the belt change really, that's what I did anyway and got probably better service than the main dealer for £150 less :D

Whereabouts are you anyway - might help us track one down for you...

thx for the replies...im in the north west, i think the nearest main dealer to me is in liverpool. its just that when i get one, i wanna keep it for a few years, so id get the cambelt done sooner rather than later to make sure the engine doesnt get ruined!

Jordan, i saw urs last week in the for sale section, think id like a standard one tbh :) i love the black wheels on silver bodywork tho, i might look into getting tht done when i get one, especially cos the wheels are prob going to be mega-corroded! :D

cheers guys,

I was told by my VW dealer to change the cambelt every 40k to be safe. I payed £150 for my cambelt and labour. It is a VW cambelt aswell. I guy done it on the side as he works in a VW garage so he knows what he's doing. He does all of my cars and no trouble at all. My local VW dealer wanted £400 to do it, told them to shove it!

Yep VW now recommend that the cambelt gets changed at 40k or after 4 years which ever soonest, and I wouldn't leave it any longer (mine went after 50k and caused alot of damage)
