Expansion tank leak

Post by AKs_SlickPolo »

Just wondering has anyone had any problems with coolant leaking from the exansion tank? i noticed on friday my coolant was below the minimum. I topped it up with genuine VW G12 coolant and whilst pouring it i felt it was dripping from the left side (from your engine bay) where there is a cap like thing that looks cliped on the left side. It seems from the bottom edge of this cap.

Anyway after filling yesterday i checked today and saw its gone a tad lower. Im a bit convinced it could be a leak now. Anyone know what this flap thing is for, and (i know it sounds dumb) but how to tighten it.

This is not the top cap thing btw  i know what that is.lol

not sure because i havent seen it but it is possible that it is a bleed screw possibly for the hose to the heater matrix. got a pic?

Well i think it was the overflow thingy that it was leaking from, which is normal. As for going low, well ive heard the G12 stuff seems to shrink sometimes. Wierdly it came back to max all by it self  yesterday.

Just an update to this.

It doesnt seem to be leaking now, but ive noticed something funny. The other day i was drove down to bedfordshire and i decided to have a look at it.
I noticed that the coolant had risen over the MAX mark in the expansion tank. and then lowered back to the max mark :? . Today its halfway but its still within the max-min markers. Is this normal?
