I'd go down to the VW garage I got it off and I would batter the salesman to death with the VW tire iron if that was the case.

Found out what the problem is!

Apparently there is a short in the circuit that controls the VVT, so its giving off errors such as cam speed sensor etc and the VVT isn't working properly/if at all.

So if anyone on here is experiencing crap power and/or has a power curve like mine then it could be that!

Well, I got a bill, but its not fixed :(

I could do with some help, I took it to JBS in chesterfield and they found some fault codes relating to cam speed sensor etc. They traced the problem to a short. Fixed the short and replaced the fuse (which apparently runs the VVT) The fuse is still intact, but the car is still putting out 100bhp (took it to the rollers last week).

Yeh mate, how much do you want for them? could you talk me through how the VVT works on the polo, i mean what switches it on? I assumed it would be the crank speed sensor or some solenoid activated by oil pressure.

Any other advice would be apprieciated, If I could get it to 120 bhp id be happy enough, 100 is a bag of s**t really :(

hi man, where abouts are you from?

as from my logic, the vvt is operated by a solenoid that controls oil flow to the tappets, the big thing at the left of the rocker cover, thats the first thing i would try on these engines, aswell as having the engine compression tested, tbh, most things with this engine should pop up on vagcom

how about this for something blatent, you sure its firing on all cylinders?

ive seen polo gti coil units snap terminals, and i was bloody surprised how smooth my engine ran on only three!!

(seems very unlikely thought, would lose alot of power i would think)

the crank speed sensor, i dont have a spare unfortunatly, i have the other cam sensor

I'm in west yorkshire.

I got the compression and timing tested, which are both fine. I feel a lag of power throughout the rev range, the car has always felt boggy when setting off but I thought everyone else was the same.

JBS (where I took it to get fixed) rolling road is broken and they have no idea when it will be back up and running. Which i must say is a bit cheeky, when their site has no mention of that. If i had of known it was broken I would have never taken it down in the first place. Not to mention how uninterested they were when I called back with the problem, on both occasions. £200 squid down the drain. My other alternative is to take it to the dealers and get ready to be shafted :(

Cheers for the info about the VVT jez.
