i have a feeling my ABS is screwed!

Post by Scott F »

about a week ago my ABS light came on, which to be honest, i was just gonna ignore until the car goes in for its service at august.

this morning though things took a bit of a turn for the worse and there was a weird noise coming from my passenger footwell (i think), which can only be described as a sort of grinding noise, but this went away after a bit and the abs light went off so i just assumed it may have miraculously fixed itself.

this afternoon, however, when i was coming home from work the abs light was back on, then, the noise came back but this time when i braked the pedal started vibrating! im guessing this was the ABS kicking in?? again though the light went off after this happened and everything went back to normal.

has anyone had this happen to them or have any idea what this could be?

cheers

yep I recon as sensor too, not so bad hopefully. sounds like its trying to brake for you, but can't as the rest of car is not, hence the noise

thanks for the replies lads i have been hoping it is just the sensor because i dont fancy having to fork out for the abs unit! does anyone know how much it would be to replace the unit? just wanna think of the worst case scenario.

i'll take it into vw sometime next week and get them to have a peek at it

cheers

a new unit is like 400 i think

the sensor is just behind the wheel, perhaps get a new sensor and replace it yourself, to see if it sorts the problem? cheaper you fitting than vw
