Key fob's stop working

Post by benny oopz »

The battery died on my key fob the other day. I replaced the battery and the fob appears to work, as the LED lights up. But now the car won't resond to it atall and am now using the spare.

I've replaced the battery before and never had this.

Has this happen to anyone before???

Sounds like the key fob is out of sync with the car and needs to be realigned so that the two work together again. There are instructions in the handbook that explain how to go about getting the car and the fob talking again, it goes something like, approach car (so you are in range of the remote locking), press and hold the button on the key fob for a few seconds, et voila! Its obviously a bit more than that (can't remember if its 'lock' or 'unlock' you press for example) so best bet is to check the handbook for the details ;)

Or you can reprogram them with VAG COM.

Couldn't find much in the manual apart from it telling me it needed resync'ing (maybe should have checked there before posting).

Anyway found this handy link on an Audi forum which did the trick.

you can do it a lot easier by just holding down the two buttons until the light stops flashing.. then its synced and works fine :D

How long do you have to keep both buttons down in order for the light to stop flashing?

My key is playing up too. I have to keep my finger on the button for a few seconds before i get a reaction! my spare key is just temperamantal, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and then sometimes it sets off the alarm!!

HELP!!! :?

mine does it roughly in about 10-15 seconds, make sure you do it standing right next to the car, if it's not working then you may have to change the battery on the key fob cost me 3.50 to get it done at VW
