GTI cup... who wants one??

Post by clees »

Polo GTi Cup unleashed
Sick of others grabbing its glory when it invented the whole hot hatch thing, Volkswagen has come up with the Polo GTi Cup.

Looking similar to the standard Polo GTi, the Cup has larger front and rear spoilers, 17in alloy wheels and red brake callipers for its uprated brakes.

The 1.8-litre engine has been tuned to deliver 178bhp and 173lb ft of torque.

The increase in power helps the Polo Cup manage 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 141mph.

No word on when it will come to the UK, but it will sell in Germany for the equivalent of £15,700. :D

if i had the 15k+ asking price: wild, ill-tempered alsations at the dealership door couldnt stop me from going in and buying one!

looks very sexeh! i know it probably wont be as fast as the clio but, then again, you wont be able to pull apart all your interior trim with your bare hands and plant your fist through the bonnet. which, im sure wont be the case with the clio!

Clio 197 is beautiful, but I'd rather have the Polo at the end of the day, no matter if the Clio drives better

i'm really not sure about VW at the moment. iv got a feeling they are holding back a wee bit. You not think.

I hate french cars and there flimsy build, Renault have the clio 197 and Fiat are bringing at there 230bhp punto    God save the owners of one of those! buyt it leads me to think WHY arew VW stricking with a bhp that low when they have easily the potential to match the punto's bhp but prove to be ALOT safer.

The thing is, the punto is gonna have 50bhp more and it wouldnt sruprise me if it turns out cheaper than the Polo.

What you guys think? its just got me wondering a little bit.

its a simple rule of thumb
as the years go by, the number of cars on the road increases, and so does the amount of accidents on the roads thus having higher police presense.
So why build a 230 bhp road version, when the legal speed limit is 70mph.
I think its wise from VW

not having a go mate, but try telling that to all the beemers zooming past you on the outside lane, its 70 alright, and im no road hooligan myself, but we all know no one sticks to it, even my granny neighbour drives 10mph above it... just saying, nice to blitz an M3 once in a while, and for that reason alone, you know you want the new CUP! peace ben...

Because even in a car with 230bhp you dont have to exceed the speed limit.

I must agree - i do think VW are holding back for some reason.

The main reason VW are holding back I suspect is it would make it quicker than the Golf GTi/R32. You could just buy the Polo Gti or the CUP and it will remap to 220-230BHP anyway.
