8v polos = s**t slow

Post by doug »

dont wanna be a pessimist but - only been driving a couple of months and im sick of my s**t slow polo lol
i know doing people at the lights is fun but it gets tiresome when in 3rd gear anything with 16v flies past

as soon as i 'hopefully' get a years no claims hoping to get something a bit quicker. are the 16v mk4s all that, out of curiosity, and how much more are they to insure than a 1.4 cl?

trust me there not that slow. even tho the 1.4 8v is a lifeless engine its quite nice sometimes. or mabe im more concious abotu my car nowdays.

but when the first year of driving after passing my test was done in a 1.2 punto 60S team ( 60bhp quoted) now that was ok on acceleration and stuff then i got my polo bigger engine better design ect ect easyer to mod and all that other german goodness.

now i have a 1.4 with 60bhp but more tourqe now thats nice. espeally on the motorways. ok i can be crusing flat out sitting at abotu 95-100 (yes thats flat out depends if theres a hill or not down hill i get a quoted 115 lol) and some dick in a merc or beemer is gaining on you fast so you move out of his way. but you can still sit up his arse.

its slow to get there but when it does its like a rock

it will happily keep up with all the barried cars round here and beat most off the lights and on corners. ( altho mine seems to oversteer)

and they look like sex.

After a while you always want more, I drive a GTi but I really would like more power sometimes, not necessarliy top speed because I can't use that but...

the 1.4's not that bad it keeps up with the best as you get going, its just not fun low down. Least its solid, reliable and good on insurance and tax.

When you clock up some no claims i'd go for a 2.0litre 8v SEAT Ibiza GTi as its similar to the polo, good on insurance, ok on fuel and goes like stink

ive got a 1.6cl and thts torquey, when im stupid and rag it i can get it to spin in second.
also i can keep up with a 1.5 16v civic so not that bad to be honest. mines only standard aswell. so mods here n there will make a big difference.

My previous car was a 1.4 CL. It is a good car, I reckon it has more power when the car is going up hill than my 16v. Regarding to the insurance, I have to pay 150 pounds more than the 1.4 CL. I had the same feeling as you before, Doug. When I had the 1.4 CL, I really want to replace it with the 16v because I prefer the shape and the power obviously. Anyway, I still think the 1.4CL is good enough if you cannot afford the insurance.

theres notu wrong with an 8v 1.4! around town you cant be touched its wicked for racing about in. I slap my mates 1.6 and 1.8 escorts around the ghetto's ( )

i think you should supercharge your car... then you would be fine lol. Is a G40 8 or 16v???

Chris,
A G40 is an 8v but the work and money getting a supercharger to work properly on a 1.4 8v polo engine would probably not be worth it

There was one at a show last month with an Eaton... £3500 worth of work and it was thrashed by a mk4 vavler (not standard obviously) that cost f**k all to tune.

It's only my opionion obviously but I'd be annoyed if I spent 3.5K on getting my 8v supercharged only to have it beaten by an N/A 16v... Wouldn't you?
